In 2021 and 2022, YMCA Togo set up a project in Sokode in which women can set up small businesses processing soy products and other foods. In the first year alone, 30 women were trained to produce and market products such as milk, yogurt, cheese, tofu, kebabs and snacks from soy derivatives. The YMCA continues to maintain contact with the women, supports and advises them and would like to help them in the future with the cooperative's bookkeeping, product certification, building up joint working capital and marketing, among other things. Other local YMCAs in other regions are interested in setting up similar initiatives.
The German Clothing Foundation supports this great project and has been helping financially to continue and expand the activities since 2024.
The German Clothing Foundation brought clothing and other relief supplies to Togo in shipping containers. Several institutions and many people in need are supplied there. The Christian Association of Young People (CVJM) from Berlin established contact with the state in West Africa and collected clothing itself, as well as books, sports equipment and other items. Several local projects were supported with the donations. Clothing was also given to people affected by HIV/AIDS who live in centers in Lome and in the interior of the country.
